How to Whiten White Clothing
- 1). Sort your laundry by color. Wash dark items with other dark clothing and light colors with similar colors. Keep your whites separate to prevent colors from other clothes from bleeding onto them.
- 2). Avoid using chlorine bleach on whites too often because it can actually cause yellowing. Instead, use an oxygen-based bleach on stains while the stain is still wet.
- 3). Hang laundered white clothing on a clothesline in a sunny spot. Sunlight works as a natural lightener, making your whites brighter without the use of harsh chemicals.
- 4). Pour 1/2 cup of vinegar in with your detergent to help lift dirt and oils from white clothing. It doesn't weaken clothing fibers, and, after the clothes are dried, any trace of vinegar smell is gone.
