How to Restore a Marble Counter That Has a Hydrofluoric Acid Spill
- 1). Clean the surface of the marble with a damp rag. Remove any small particles that might scratch the marble’s surface during polishing.
- 2). Put on protective eye wear. Attach a coarse-grit sanding pad to on orbital sander. Dampen the counter with clean water. Lower the sander to the marble. Focus on the stained area first. Move the sander up and down and back and forth across the stain until it has been removed. Wipe away any sanding dust.
- 3). Work the sander across the entire counter. Sand the counter until the entire counter top has a similar finish. The surface will be milky in color.
- 4). Change the sanding pad on the orbital sander, choosing a finer-grit pad. Pour a small amount of water over the surface and sand the marble again.
- 5). Change to finer sanding pads until you get a high-polished shine.
- 6). Place 1 ½ tsp. of marble and granite polish on a buffing cloth. Attach the cloth to the orbital sander. Buff the marble to bring out the shine.
- 7). Dip a soft cloth into impregnating sealer. Rub the sealer into the marble until it is absorbed.
