How to Remove Cigarette Burns From Hardwood Floors
- 1). Rub the cigarette burn with 1200-grit sandpaper. If the burn mark is only on the surface, you will have no problem removing it with the sandpaper.
- 2). Scratch the burn mark with the edge of a pocket knife if the burn is deeper than the surface of the floor. Do not dig the burn out because that will cause extra damage that can be difficult to repair. Simply shave the burn off, layer by layer. In most cases, the amount needed to be shaved off will not be very noticeable.
- 3). Sweep up the wood residue with a broom and dustpan.
- 4). Dip one corner of a clean towel in tung oil. Tung oil is an ingredient that is found in most wood stains, so it will help restore the color of your floor and bring back its shine.
- 5). Rub the oil onto the floor where the cigarette burn was. It is best to rub it in along the grain to ensure the oil gets into all the holes and crevices. Let the oil soak in and dry before walking on it.
