How to Remove Decals & Iron Ons From Shirts
- 1). Pre-heat your iron to the "High" temperature setting.
- 2). Rip out any threads used to secure the decal/iron-on to the surface or as decorative border or highlighting. If the decal or iron-on doesn't contain thread, skip this step.
- 3). Lay a piece of thin white cotton or linen material on a flat, hard work surface.
- 4). Place your shirt, design facing up, on the material.
- 5). Insert a piece of parchment or clean, blank newspaper inside the shirt between the front and back pieces of fabric.
- 6). Cover the design with parchment or newspaper, and set a piece of thin cotton or linen material on top of the paper.
- 7). Iron using light pressure across the cotton or linen to heat through to the design, melt it and transfer it to the paper. Repeat with clean paper as needed until you've transferred the entire design.
- 8). Remove any remaining adhesive residues after the shirt has cooled by blotting the fabric with rubbing alcohol and a lint-free microfiber cloth.
