    • 1). Pour 1 cup of ammonia into 1 gallon of warm water. Dampen a washcloth with the solution and wipe the wall from the bottom to the top. Rinse the washcloth frequently and dry the wall as you clean it.

    • 2). Add 4 tablespoons of baking soda to 4 quarts of warm water to deodorize walls if the smoke odor remains. Stir the water to dissolve the baking soda. Soak a sponge in the solution and wipe down the walls from the bottom to the top. Rinse the walls and dry them with a towel.

    • 3). Fill small bowls with ammonia or white vinegar. Place them in the room with the smoke odor. The vinegar or ammonia will absorb the smoke odor from the walls.

    • 4). Soak a washcloth in white vinegar and wring it out so that it remains damp. Swing the washcloth around the room to neutralize the smoke smells. You may have to do this daily until the smell disappears.

    • 5). Apply a fresh coat of paint to the room if the cigarette smoke smell remains. Apply a sealant to the wall first to trap the smoke odors so that they do not come through the new paint.
